How to Make Dry Coconut Powder? (Step by Step Guide with Images)
Step 1: Take 1 cup of coconut slices.
Step 2: Peel the brown skin from the backside of each piece with a knife or a peeler.
(Pro tip: Be very careful if you are using a knife for it. Or else, take a whole coconut, tap the shell with a hammer continuously to remove it, and peel the brown skin with a peeler from the whole coconut. Then break it and cut it into small pieces).
Step 3: Wash the slices of coconut thoroughly with water. Use a tissue to remove additional water from the pieces.
Step 4: Now take a clean grinder. Transfer the coconut slices from the plate to the grinder.
(Pro tip: For better grinding, do not grind all of the coconut pieces together. It will be easier and better if you put half of them into the grinder at a time).
Step 5: Grind them to a fine powder and transfer it to a plate.
Step 6: Now, take a frying pan and heat it on a low flame on your gas stove. When it is hot enough put the ground coconut in it.
(Pro tip: Make sure that the flame is low to prevent the powder from being burnt. This will eventually affect the taste and color of the dry coconut powder).
Step 7: Stir the coconut powder continuously until the excess water or moisture from it dries up completely.
Step 8: When you smell the lovely fragrance of dry coconut, transfer the powder to a plate and your dry coconut powder is eventually ready to be used.

Notes
- Freshness of the coconut slices is the key to achieve the rich flavor of dry coconut powder.
- Exercise extreme caution while peeling the brown skin with a knife.
- Remove impurities by washing the coconut slices thoroughly.
- I use a tissue to remove the excess water. This ensures a clean grind. You can do the same.
- Roast the slices on a low flame. Stir continuously to prevent burning and allow proper evaporation of the moisture from the slices.
- Cool the slices before grinding. I prefer grinding the coconut slices in batches. This ensures a smoother powder.
