Ingredients

  • 100 grams Roasted black sesame seeds
  • 15 cloves Fresh garlic
  • 1 piece Onion (diced roughly)
  • 1 piece Fresh tomato (cut roughly)
  • 2 pieces Fresh green chilies
  • 1 piece Fresh ginger 1-inch size (cut roughly with or without skin)
  • ½ cup Fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Table salt
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • ½ cup Water

Instructions

  • First, take a clean grinder and put 100 gm of black sesame seed in it. (Pro tip: It is best to use freshly roasted sesame seeds. Take a frying pan, heat it on a low flame, put the seeds, and stir them continuously for about a minute or two. However, ensure that you put the roasted sesame seeds in the grinder only when it is sufficiently cool).
  • Then, add 15 to 20 medium-sized cloves of fresh garlic into the grinder.
  • Follow it with 1 onion, roughly diced.
  • Now add 2 pieces of fresh green chilies to the ingredients in the grinder. (Pro tip: You can increase or decrease the number of green chilies according to your taste).
  • Then add 1 small piece of fresh tomato, cut roughly in the grinder. (Pro tip: If you do not have fresh tomatoes at home, you can add 2 tsp of fresh lemon juice to the ingredients as an alternative).
  • Now, add about ½ cup of fresh coriander leaves in the grinder as well.
  • Follow it with 1 piece of roughly cut fresh ginger of about 1-inch size, with or without the skin.
  • Now, add 1 tsp of regular table salt to the ingredients in the grinder.
  • Then, add 1 tsp of dry red chili powder to the ingredients. (Pro tip: Once again, you can adjust the amount of red chili powder according to your preference).
  • Finally, add about ½ a cup of water to the grinder.
  • Grind them all to a fine paste.
  • Now, transfer the paste to a plate, and garnish it with a slice of tomato and coriander leaf. Your homemade black sesame seed chutney is eventually ready to be served with different dishes and snack varieties.

Notes

Roast the black sesame seeds to precision. I suggest you roast them on a low flame until they emit the natural nutty aroma. This will prevent burning and help retain the optimal flavor.
Before grinding, make sure that the rotated sesame seeds have cooled down completely. This will help maintain the quality of the chutney.
I always use fresh garlic cloves to make this chutney at home. Do the same and ensure that the cloves are of medium size. This will prevent it from overpowering the overall taste and flavor of the chutney.
Dice the onion roughly. This will add to the texture of the chutney, elevating its visual appeal.
If you do not have fresh tomatoes at home, add 2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice to the chutney. This will help maintain the tanginess and acidity of the chutney.
