Welcome to Mitar Cooking, your culinary destination for authentic tried and tested Bengali and Indian recipes.
Who am I?
A homemaker and a mother of two kids, my name is Mita Mondal. I live in West Bengal, famous for its rich cultural heritage, food and sweets. I’ve loved cooking since I was a child.. Learning and cooking new dishes has been my passion.

Being a homemaker, I cook every day for my caring husband and two little children along with performing other household chores.

However, cooking isn’t just something I have to do — it’s something I truly love. I have always had a passion for preparing new dishes for my family and friends. I enjoy both cooking traditional recipes and experimenting with new ones.
My Culinary Journey
I have been cooking daily for more than 15 years now. My culinary journey as a home cook can be traced back to my early teenage days.
I used to watch my mother cutting vegetables, grinding spices on silbatta (grinding stone as in those days, mixer was not available) and cooking a variety of items.
My interest in cooking grew over time. After marriage, I started collecting recipes from my mother-in-law.
Suddenly, the thought of sharing my recipes with you occurred to me, and my husband was quick to appreciate it and extend all technical support to launch Mitar Cooking on the web.
With the support of my husband, and my kids’ seal of approval, here I am sharing the mouth watering dishes with you.
My Vision
I focus on two things: Bengali dishes that don’t always make it into English-language cookbooks, and everyday Indian recipes done the way my family actually eats them at home — not a restaurant version. Every recipe on this site is one I’ve cooked and tested myself, usually more than once, before it goes up here.
Family Favorites and Testimonials
While my husband loves my signature chicken curry and my kids are overwhelmed with sweet dishes like Besan Ladoo and Payesh, here is what some readers have to say after they tried my recipes:
