About

Welcome to Mitar Cooking, your culinary destination for authentic tried and tested Bengali and Indian recipes.

Who am I?

I am Mita Mondal, a housewife living in Nadia, a district in the state of West Bengal, India. I am passionate about cooking.

Being a homemaker, I cook every day for my caring husband and two little children along with performing other household chores.

However, cooking is not just an obligation for me; to be honest, it is the love of my life. I have always had a passion for preparing new dishes for my family and friends. I enjoy both cooking traditional recipes and experimenting with new ones.

My Culinary Journey

I have been cooking daily for more than 15 years now.  My culinary journey as a home cook can be traced back to my early teenage days.

I used to watch my mother cutting vegetables, grinding spices on silbatta (grinding stone as in those days, mixer was not available) and cooking a variety of items.

My interest in cooking grew over time. One day, I summoned courage and requested my mother to allow me to cook a dish.

“Please, let me do it. I know I can do it. I have watched you cooking the meal several times. I have memorized all the ingredients that go into cooking the dish as well as the proportion of their use”.

“No, you don’t need to do our work. Go and study”, my mother scolded.

It was my eldest sister who came to rescue me.

That was my first cooking experience. I was only 13 years old then. Looking back, I can vividly remember what I cooked – Hansher Dimer Kasha (Duck Egg Curry).

Everyone in the family heaped their praise, love and blessings on me. That was the humble beginning for me.

After marriage, I started collecting recipes from my mother-in-law. For a long time, I have been cooking for my near and dear ones.

Now I am keen on sharing my secrets to the worldwide food lovers who love to cook Bengali and Indian foods.
