This recipe came from the woman who brings handmade soaps to our society market and homes. While buying from her during Diwali stalls, I noticed her daughter munching on something delicious. I asked, and she said, “Maa’s special.” Her mother offered me a bit and shared the recipe right there.

I made it that week. My husband said it smelled festive, and my sons loved its freshness. Now, it is our bazaar evening snack. That moment reminded me that creativity flows in many forms—sometimes in scented soaps, sometimes in recipes passed between stalls under fairy lights.

Notes

There is no need to soak the dal for this recipe.
I have used potatoes and carrots in the soup. You can use other vegetables as well like beans and capsicum.
A rich and creamy texture of the soup is achieved by blending the dal and vegetables.
A mixer can also be used in place of a hand blender to grind the dal and vegetables. In that case you must cool it down completely before grinding.
Add enough water to the soup because the dal and vegetables will absorb a lot of water. If you add little water, it will be a dry lump of dal and vegetables.
