I came across this recipe when I visited my cousin’s daughter’s school fair. There was a sweet teacher supervising one of the food stalls in the fair and was offering this chutney as a compliment to the visitors smilingly. She said it was her special chutney she made at home. I liked the unique taste and flavor of the chutney and could not resist myself from asking the recipe from her.

She shared it with joy. I tried to make it at home the next day. My husband said it tasted cheerful, and the boys called it “fair food.” Now, it is our school carnival favorite! That fun event and my unplanned visit reminded me that even educators love sharing their joys outside the classroom—on plates filled with flavor, fun, and thoughtful creativity.

(Pro tip: It is best to use freshly roasted sesame seeds. Take a frying pan, heat it on a low flame, put the seeds, and stir them continuously for about a minute or two. However, ensure that you put the roasted sesame seeds in the grinder only when it is sufficiently cool).

Step 2: Then, add 15 to 20 medium-sized cloves of fresh garlic into the grinder.

Notes

Roast the black sesame seeds to precision. I suggest you roast them on a low flame until they emit the natural nutty aroma. This will prevent burning and help retain the optimal flavor.
Before grinding, make sure that the rotated sesame seeds have cooled down completely. This will help maintain the quality of the chutney.
I always use fresh garlic cloves to make this chutney at home. Do the same and ensure that the cloves are of medium size. This will prevent it from overpowering the overall taste and flavor of the chutney.
Dice the onion roughly. This will add to the texture of the chutney, elevating its visual appeal.
If you do not have fresh tomatoes at home, add 2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice to the chutney. This will help maintain the tanginess and acidity of the chutney.
