Chicken burger comprises fried chicken breast marinated and seasoned with different spices and ingredients like garlic, onion and more, inside a burger bun covered with a special sauce made from mayonnaise, honey, lemon juice and others. The Ingredients:

For 1 burger:

  • 1 piece burger bun

To marinate the chicken:

  • 1 piece chicken breast (100 gm)
  • 100 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp refined wheat flour (maida)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tbsp garlic (minced)
  • Table salt – To taste

To make the burger sauce:

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp honey mustard sauce
  • ½ tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp parsley (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper powder

To grill the burger:

  • ½ tsp butter

To fry the onion rings:

  • ½ tsp butter

To fry the chicken breast:

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

For the filling:

  • 1 slice cheese
  • Onion – A few rings
  • 3 leaves lettuce
  • 8 pieces cucumber (pickled or fresh, circular pieces)
  • 3 pieces tomato (fresh, circular pieces)

I tried this while staying in an all-women’s hostel in Shillong. One of the girls was always cooking in the communal kitchen and once offered me a piece. I have had burgers before but the taste of this burger was rich, intense, and carried unexpected warmth.

I asked her how did she make a burger so tasty. She winked at me and said, “My way of staying sane.” I understood. I recreated it during my own anxious spells. The first couple of times it was not as good as hers but over time I mastered it.

How to Make Chicken Burger? (Step by Step Guide with Images)

Step 1: Take 100 ml of milk, 2 tbsp of refined wheat flour (maida), 1 tsp of chili powder, 1 tsp of curry powder, ½ tsp of minced garlic, ¼ tsp of black pepper powder, and regular table salt to taste in a bowl. Mix them.

Step 2: Take 100 gm of chicken breast piece. Make holes with a fork.

Step 3: Put it in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Take 2 tbsp of mayonnaise, 1 tbsp of honey mustard sauce, ½ tbsp of honey, 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice, 1 tsp of finely chopped fresh parsley, and ¼ tsp of black pepper powder in another bowl. Mix.

Step 5: Slice a few onion rings.

Step 8: Heat ½ tsp of butter in a frying pan. Put the two pieces of the burger bun as shown. Remove them when golden brown.

Step 9: Take ½ tsp of butter in the same frying pan. Fry the onion rings. Remove when translucent.

Step 10: Take 4 tbsp of refined wheat flour, 2 tbsp of cornstarch, 1 tsp of red chili powder, 1 tsp of curry powder, ¼ tsp of black pepper powder, and salt to taste in a separate bowl. Mix.

Step 12: Put in the powdered seasoning. Coat nicely.

Step 15: Fry the coated chicken breast in 2 tbsp cooking oil. Remove it when golden brown.

Notes

I use fresh chicken breast and other ingredients for the rich taste of chicken burger.
Marinate and let the chicken breast sit for some time. This will allow proper infusion of the flavor. I usually pierce the breast piece with a fork. This helps further in flavor infusion.
Double coating the marinated chicken breast will add more crunch.
Follow the ratio of refined flour and cornstarch as mentioned. It will ensure prefect crunchiness.
Toast the burger bun with a little butter for additional flavor and crunch.
