One evening when I was searching for new tiffin ideas on YouTube, I came across this mutton momo video. Both my sons had problems after eating momos from roadside stalls several times, so I decided to make it at home this time. I followed every step and instructions and they seemed so easy! The next morning, the children who returned from school started smiling after seeing the steaming mutton momos in the kitchen.
Seeing them happy, I also got more excited. My husband put green chutney on the first plate and said, “You have brought the hotel-like taste to home,” and I felt proud from within. There is no bigger compliment than this for me. Now making these momos once a week has become our small family tradition.
How to Make Mutton Momos? (Step by Step Guide with Images)
Step 1: Knead a soft dough with 250 gram of refined wheat flour, 1 tbsp of refined oil, salt and water as required.

(Pro tip: Knead the dough and keep it covered for 15 minutes. This will help it set properly).
Step 2: Heat 1 tbsp of cooking oil in a frying pan. Fry 1 cup of finely chopped onion, 1 tsp of ginger, garlic and green chili paste until the onion turns slightly golden.

Step 3: Now, add 250 gram minced mutton. Mix well and fry for 2 minutes.

Step 4: Then add 1 cup carrot (grated) and 1 cup cabbage (finely chopped), mix them nicely with the mutton mixture.

Step 5: Add salt to taste and ½ tbsp black pepper powder. Mix and cook until the water evaporates.

Step 6: Now, add ½ tbsp garam masala powder. Mix it nicely with the mutton mixture. Turn off the gas stove and let it cool.

Step 7: Roll out a few small dough balls like a thin puri, place the minced mutton mixture in the middle and shape it like a traditional momo.

(Pro tip: Ensure the minced mutton mixture is cold while filling, otherwise the momos will be too soft and a watery liquid will come out).
Step 8: Grease the momo steamer or a plate with holes and place the momos in it.

Step 9: Take adequate water in a kadai and boil it.

Step 10: Place the plate with the momos on the top of the kadai, cover it and steam them for 10 to 12 minutes.

Step 11: Check your homemade delicious mutton momos after 10 minutes or so. They should be ready.

(Pro tip: If you are using an electric steamer, cook till light becomes visible).
Step 12: Take them out on a plate and serve them hot with tomato ketchup and enjoy.
