I learned to make masala chaas from a roadside stall in our market area. One hot morning, I ordered a glass and noticed the man adding the ingredients to make it. He was an expert and did it very quickly but I was quick enough to register everything in my mind. Coming back home, I wrote it down in my kitchen notebook.

I made it the same day for my kids to have after they returned from their school in the afternoon. They liked the taste very much. My husband also had it and said that the balance of spices, flavor and taste was just perfect. I was so happy to see them enjoy their drink so much. I thought I was fortunate to have learned this recipe, which now features often in the summer afternoons.

Notes

Use fresh and thick curd to make masala chaas.
I use roasted cumin and coriander powder because they add a unique taste and flavor to my masala chaas.
Adding black salt adds to the taste and flavor. However, it can be skipped and replaced with an equal amount of regular salt.
Though I have not used it, you may add ice to your masala chaas. Cold water is good enough.
Masala chaas is usually runny. So do not make it too thick like lassi.
