I learned the recipe first when I visited a relative’s house. It was served before dinner. The sour taste and crispy texture impressed me and I asked for the recipe. She narrated it in detail with some additional advice on the marination and coating methods. I noted it down in my kitchen diary to prepare it later in my home kitchen.

The dish I prepared for my husband and two sons during the next weekend created a perfect balance of deliciousness and crispiness. It was extremely soft and crunchy. They loved it and asked for more. It made me happy when I saw them enjoy it, and I expressed my deep gratitude for discovering such a delicious recipe.

Notes

Marinating with salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder actually removes the strong smell of the fish.
I have used kokum water. If you do not have it, use tamarind water. Add it gradually to make a thick paste.
I have used fine sooji in the recipe. You can use any variant.
Put the final crispy coating just before frying the fish to achieve the right texture.
Fry the fish pieces on a medium to high flame, or else it will lose moisture and remove the coating.
