I got this recipe from a guest lecturer at a women’s seminar held in our community hall. She had brought snacks to share and encouraged us to network over food. I was drawn to her dish and asked about it, especially the pickle that had a vibrant and unique look. She smiled and said, “It is my unique way to connect with people.”

I asked for the recipe and she was happy to share it with me. I made it on the very next day. My husband said it felt empowering, and the boys liked the boldness. Now, it is our idea-day snack. That experience reminded me that knowledge is not just shared in talks and speeches; it is sometimes served through unique recipes by women who feed both mind and spirit.

Notes

I use high-quality black chickpeas, mustard oil, and fresh spices to make this chutney. It adds to the taste and flavor.
Dry the soaked chickpeas nicely using a paper towel. Moisture will not only affect the texture but will also reduce the shelf life of the pickle.
My recipe is customizable. So, adjust the spice levels according to your preference.
Always heat the mustard oil before adding it to the pickle mixture. This will not only enhance the taste of the pickle but will also act as a preservative.
Ensure that the oil and spices are mixed properly. This will also add to the taste and flavor of the pickle.
