  • Sesame fish is a popular dish enjoyed across coastal and urban parts of India.
  • Serve it with green chutney, lemon wedges, and a side of fresh salad or with steamed rice.
  • Sesame fish has a mild nutty flavor and earthy taste.
  • Other similar recipes are fish fry, Amritsari fish, crispy fried pomfret, and fish pakora.

The Ingredients:

  • 650 grams Tilapia fish (cleaned, with small cuts on both sides of the body)
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour (maida)
  • 1 tbsp corn flour
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tbsp salt

One of my neighbors taught me this recipe. She said it is very popular in the coastal regions and has a beautiful flavor. The dish requires only a few ingredients which make it possible to prepare within a short time frame. Intrigued, I noted down the steps as she described them along with the tips and tricks.

When I made it at home the next weekend, it came out really well and was appreciated by all. My husband, a food critic, especially my preparations, also praised my efforts, and my two sons loved the crunchy taste. I sincerely thanked my neighbor for sharing the recipe with me, which brought such wonderful moments to treasure.

Notes

I have taken Tilapia fish for the recipe. Pomfret or any other fish variety with fewer bones can also be used.
Checking the hotness of oil is crucial. Watch for the bubbles released from the chopsticks.
Though I have not, you can make a spicy batter by adding red chili and black pepper powder to it.
Do not flip the fish for the first 5 or 6 minutes. It will come out automatically after frying. Forcing will break the fish.
Leaving the batter droplets will burn them very fast affecting the taste.
