Long time back, while going to my aunt’s house, I had this in a food stall in Kolkata. While taking every bite, I carefully looked at the ingredients. I felt this is just a basic snack food comprising common ingredients like bread, eggs, onions and chilies but full of heart.

I smiled, but I took her seriously. I made it several times at home, and every time my kids asked when did I have time to go out and get it from the food stall on the street. It is their complement to me, I feel.

How to Make Bread Omelette Toast? (Step by Step Guide with Images)

Step 1: Take a bowl. Put finely chopped pieces of 1 medium-sized onion and 2 pieces of fresh green chilies in it. To it, add ¼ tsp of black pepper powder and salt to taste. Mix them nicely.

(Pro Tip: The finer the chopped onions are, the better. Adjust the quantity of green chilies according to your preference. Mixing these ingredients before adding the egg ensures proper blending of salt and spices with the egg and onions).

Step 2: Now, first put one egg and mix it nicely with a fork or a spoon. Then add the next egg in it and mix it nicely as well.

(Pro Tip: I have used 2 eggs to make the bread omlette toast. You can make it with only one if you want. Mixing the eggs one by one, once again, ensures proper blending of the spices and other ingredients with the egg).

Step 3: Now, take a frying pan and put 1 tbsp of oil in it. When the oil is smoking hot, put the egg mixture in it. Spread it nicely on the pan.

Step 4: When the egg mixture is still raw, quickly put two pieces of bread on it one by one and press them gently.

(Pro Tip: Putting the bread pieces at this point ensures that the omelette sticks to the bread. You can use sliced bread instead of a quarter-pound of bread if you want. However, I prefer bread toast made with a quarter-pound bread).

Step 5: Let it cook on one side for about a couple of minutes on a medium flame. Use your spatula to cut the omelette from the middle when it is done.

Step 6: Now, use the spatula and a fork to flip the bread pieces along with the omelette sticking to them. It should be easy now that it is divided into two parts. You may also keep it as one whole piece.

Step 7: Let it cook for another minute or so. Make sure that you flip and hold the edges as well so that everything is cooked nicely and evenly from all sides.

Alternative Step: An alternative way to make French toast is to dip the bread pieces in the bowl containing the egg mixture and fry them. Put the excess egg mixture on all sides of the bread pieces on the pan with a spoon and cook them nicely.

Step 8: Either way, when all the sides are cooked nicely and turn slightly brown in color, your homemade bread omelette toast is ready. Transfer them to a plate (I have served only 3 here) and serve them hot, with or without any condiment.

Notes

I chop the ingredients into tiny pieces so that their taste spreads evenly in the omelette.
Though I choose thick bread for the bet result, you can use regular sliced bread for a different texture.
Mix ingredients and eggs thoroughly in a bowl and spread it evenly on the frying pan. This will ensure even spreading of the flavors.
Heat the oil until it is smoking hot before pouring the egg mix evenly. Frying in hot oil will cook faster.
Regulate the heat if necessary to prevent burning and achieve the desired level of crispiness.
