Dabeli Masala Powder is a special mixture of a combination of roasted and ground seeds and spices like cloves, black pepper, and more.
You can use it in a variety of snack items and enhance your culinary creations to a new level.
It is easy to make dabeli masala powder at home. In this simple guide, I will walk you through the simple steps to make it quickly.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Dabeli masala powder is a harmonious blend of coriander, cumin, fennel, and several aromatic spices.
- In addition to dabeli, a popular Indian street food, this versatile powder can enhance the taste of pav bhaji, aloo tikki chaat, bhel puri, dabeli pizza, masala pav, ragda pattice, and paratha stuffing when added to them.
- Cool the mixture completely before storing. Use an airtight container preferably of glass. Do not refrigerate and store the container away from direct sunlight. This will prevent condensation and maintain its freshness and texture.
- Dabeli masala powder tastes earthy and citrusy, creamy and tangy, sweet and slightly spicy.
- A close alternative to this powder is chaat masala powder. However, garam masala powder would also render an almost similar taste. You may also use pav bhaji, rasa, or sambar masala powder as a substitute.

Notes
- I always use fresh whole spices to make dabeli masala powder and suggest you to do the same. This enhances the taste of the masala powder dramatically.
- Roast the whole spices carefully. Keep the flame low and stir the spices continuously to prevent them from burning. Remove them from the fry pan when you notice an even color change.
- Cool the roasted spices completely before grinding. Grinding hot spices will result in a change in taste and flavor due to the heat.
- My recipe is customizable and therefore you can experiment by adding different spices to the mixture. You can even adjust the quantities according to your tolerance.
- Grind the spices to perfection to achieve a fine and consistent texture. This will help the flavor distribute evenly, thereby enhancing your taste experience.
